The Soapbox Archives:
The problem is that whatever happens in the movies defines everything else. Disney is not going to care about all the characters and worlds and continuous storyline created since 1977 in the books, graphic novels, games, and computer games. George Lucas had a division that worked with all these independent venues to make the characters stayed intact and nothing happened that could upset the time line. Everything that happens in the movies becomes canon; they define the boundaries of the storylines and all of a sudden, all those books I've read and all those games that I've played are now obsolete.
In the games, there was a character named Kyle Katarn who started out as a mercenary (actually, an Imperial) and stole the original Death Star plans, escaped, and delivered them to the Rebellion (in the LucasArts game, "Dark Forces"). Katarn eventually went on to become a Jedi Knight with an interesting history in the LucasArts game "Jedi Knight" as well as "Jedi Outcast". He was also in some graphic novels, all part of the Star Wars universe. What about the prison planet Dispayre where the Death Star was built? That was the first test of the Death Star that made it "operational".
Will we ever meet Mara Jade on the silver screen?
Is Rogue One a prelude to the books chronicling the adventures of "Rogue Squadron". I'll pay good money to see a movie about Rogue Squadron. That storyline is worth a few movies right there.
I think that Disney could have done a better job and embraced the complete Star Wars universe and cemented all the events of all the media created between 1977 and 2017.
By the way, the S7 was going for about $750 from the phone company when it came out, though I think it's down to about $575 now. I got mine off a reseller on eBay for $420. I couldn't justify spending over $700 for a new phone, but $400 was closer to my price range and it was easy to justify a little more for the S7. All I need to do was to get an unlocked phone that worked on my phone company's GSM network and then get a new SIMM card and I had a brand new Samsung S7. Awesome.
